We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday at 9:30AM at Belk Scout camp. The trailers will be out front, past the main entrance by a new service entrance so do not enter the camp. Have your foot lockers with you and be prepared to spend a couple of hours packing up the trailer. There will be 200+ people there so look for the leaders and look for piles of gear marked in purple. Be sure to label all of your personal gear!!!
Hint! The faster you pitch in to help, the quicker we’ll all get to go back home.

Jamboree departure Sunday, July 25th, 2010 @ 10:30 PM

We will be departing for the jamboree at the following location:

What to pack in your daypack, which you carry onto the bus!

• Wear your class ‘A’ Uniform, keep a T-shirt on underneath so you can keep your Class ‘A’ fresh after the bus departs.
• Your picture ID
• Personal 1st aid kit
• Camera (Disposable preferred)
• Smart card/Smart Bracelet/wallet
• Water bottle
• Light Snack (For later, not on bus)
• Gold bond (Yes, we are serious about this. It’s one of the top medical issues from previous
jamborees and it’s so easy to avoid. Bring it, use it daily, you’ll be fine).

Everything else can go into your trunk to be packed on the 17th. If possible try to avoid having to
bring an extra duffle bag to stow under the bus, but for some of you it will be necessary to bring the
duffle.

Individual packing list for the jamboree

We have attached a packing list for your convenience. It’s the same list we’ve been using and the same list that national puts out from their web site. We have added only the following items:
- A foot locker w/combo lock
- In your mess kit, include a fork, knife, spoon, plate, bowl and a cup.
- Personal 1st Aid kit / with Gold Bond
- A folding chair or stool (optional, we will have benches at the jamboree!) You will want to bring a cushion or SHORT stool to sit on during the arena shows. You will NOT be able to use a full size camp chair during the arena shows. All other items, please refer to the attached list. Use your best judgment on which items you will
need from the list. Thanks!

Patches/Shirts & Hats update

I must first say that I have now seen the hats and shirts and I LIKE THEM! They really look nice and I’ll be proud to wear them for years to come!
Mr. Cochran has separated all of the hats, shirts and patrol & position patches into groups per each scout. We are only waiting for the patches the council has ordered and will be distributing everything all in one pickup. A special email will come out ASAP with the pickup location, time and date. We thank you for your patience, we share your frustrations while waiting for the patches and we would recommend at this point that you plan on packing the class ‘A’ shirts into the boys’ daypacks or
duffels because we may not get everything to you before truck loading day.

If you haven’t turned in your gateway decorations, please remember to pack them in your trunk!

I encourage each scout to download and read from cover to cover this guide over the next two weeks. You will get a hard copy when you arrive at the jamboree, but don’t wait! Visitors will be allowed in the camp site areas!!!

This is a correction what we were previously told, so come on over! A lot of walking is involved so guests bring a water bottle and comfortable shoes. If you are planning a visit to the jamboree, please let us know the Date/Time you expect to arrive and give us your contact information. We may ask a special favor to bring something up from home so we appreciate if assistance if this need comes up!

Fishing at the Jamboree -I will be working at Fish Hook Lake. Scouts & Scouters that come & participate
will be given a special limited patch from me. Scouts will be given preference. I have a very limited
supply of 200. You may also receive another patch from the Fishing Staff. Scouts will also have the
opportunity to work on the fishing merit badge. Fish caught may be released or Staff will clean & cook
them for you---very tasty. Fun to be had by all. -Gus

Families of troop 1907 !!!

Please allow me to echo a few of the sentiments from our fearless leader Mr Paul Cochran, regarding the Shakedown campout this weekend.

1.  It was a fabulous experience!  It was NOT EASY and your sons held up like Marines in that heat.  This was an opportunity for them to grow individually and pull together as a troop.  They are coming together, and they are understanding their roles and expectations, and it is great to see.

2.  Based on the results of our experience, I have no doubts about our being ready to handle the rigors of the jamboree with smiles on our faces and eagerness in our hearts.  We will have a tremendous experience in just over 40 days and it will be a lifetime memory to treasure.

3. Please encourage your sons to visit the jamboree website, especially under the "Activities" section and begin to plan out their 10 days.  We will help them with this, but they need to know what they want to do (and what's available).  What they put into their jamboree preparation from this point forward will make all the difference when they get there.  You will see a much larger focus of the upcoming bulletins on this topic.

Scouts! - Plan! Plan! Plan!  You'll be glad you did.

4.  My thanks to you parents for working with a difficult schedule for pick up time.  I recieved no complaints. We greatly appreciate your support, especially when events are sometimes ambiguous or even out of our control.

5.  Boys! Keeping drinking your water and keep spending time out in the heat (safely), to continue to accustom yourself to that 10 day stretch of heat we're going to get.  It will be hot at the jamboree!

6. Lessons learned (thorns and roses) - Continue to submit ideas on how we can make our experience at the jamboree better.  Remember to submit a solution with every problem you send in as well.

7. Patrols - continue to function via email and phone over the next month on at least a weekly basis to continue your preparations.  Patrol leaders make sure you make contact with every member of our patrol each week to ensure that preparations and adjustments are getting done.

Scouts - Check your emails DAILY from now until the jamboree.  When asked for information, please be prompt in your response.  If you don't have a response, respond anyway and let them know.

Hopefully you aren't asking yourself,"What do I have to discuss as a patrol?"  But if you do have this question, reach out to your senior patrol leaders, Alex, Robert, Jacob and David for help in this matter.  We'll make sure they can answer your questions.  All PLs and APLs should now have email and phone contact information for their patrols and the leaders.  If this is not the case, you need to let me know immediately so I can get you this information.

8. Finally my thanks to my 3 mentors - Paul, Bob and Kyle for teaching me the way scouting should be run this weekend, for teaching these boys how to run their own program, how to be prepared with the right equipment, and for being positive role-models.

I am privileged to be on the Jamboree Troop 1907 staff - the finest Troop at the 2010 BSA jamboree.

PLC Meeting Sunday 6/6 - 3:30 @ Calvary church (6-2-10)

Those who need to attend this meeting are the troop leaders, patrol leaders and assistant patrol leaders. Hopefully you know who you are. If you are not sure if you should attend then please contact your SPL, Alex at 980-321-0400.

Jamboree Shakedown Weekend June 11-13 (updated 6-2-10)

All participants need to arrive out at Belk scout camp by no later than 1PM on June 11th.

***Special reminder – We will be conducting swim checks at the shakedown. Please remember to bring your swim trunks to the shakedown. You cannot participate in jamboree water events without first having a swim check, and this is the only one we have scheduled, so don’t come unprepared.

Personal first aid kits due at the shakedown

All participants must carry a personal 1st Aid kit around with them at all times at the jamboree. Consult your Boy Scout Handbook for a suggested list of things to put in your kit. See the 2nd class requirement for building a personal 1st Aid kit. Your patrol leaders will be checking for this kit out at the shakedown and reporting this information in to the SPL, so please have it completed and on your person when you arrive.

Gateway Decorations are due at the shakedown

The following scouts have accepted the additional responsibility of building/bringing a gateway decoration to put on our cut-out of the state of North Carolina. Scout do not forget that you must also devise a way to fasten it onto the gateway structure. Thanks for your help!

Truck loading time for personal gear is 11:30AM on the July 17th

Mark your calendars. Make your preparations to put as much personal gear in your foot locker and load it onto the truck at this time. Remember that when we arrive at the jamboree, 40,000 people will be trying to fit into the same gateway at the same time (more or less). The less stuff we carry on to the bus the better, and the faster we get checked in. You must carry your picture ID with you on the bus. You will need it to get in to the jamboree. Don’t pack it on the truck!

Scouts need an official ID for the Jamboree (6-2-10)

A Picture ID is required for the Jamboree! You may use your school ID, a driver's license, a passport card, or some other type of legal ID with the scout's picture on it. NCDOCT will issue you an ID card up to age 15 for $10. See here for details.

Bring your plaque decorations to the shakedown. We will be collecting them and storing them with the Gateway materials between the shakedown and the jamboree.

Troop T-shirts and hats now ordered (6-2-10)

We are completing the order process for hats and shirts. We’ve got such a good deal that we are able to get all participants three activity shirts and a troop hat at no additional cost! We thought you’d like to know.

Money at the jamboree (6-2-10)

Scoutmasters will NOT be managing funds for scouts while at the jamboree. Please prepare your scouts with a suitable option that will work for you. Parents, your best options for kids to bring money to the jamboree is as follows:
1. A Debit card w/PIN#
2. A Jamboree Smart Bracelet
3. A Jamboree Smart Card
4. Cash - not recommended
Scoutmasters will NOT be managing funds for scouts while at the jamboree.

Troop Meetings are now mandatory! (5-7-10)

Per decree from Scoutmaster Paul Cochran, all scouts are required to attend all remaining troop meetings. You must seek approval directly from Mr. Cochran if you feel that your son will not be able to attend a meeting. In Paul’s own words, “There’s too much to do, and we’re running out of time. We need everyone there.”

Foot/Storage locker recommendations (5-7-10)

It comes strongly recommended that each participant has a storage locker in which he can keep his valuables and personal items. The locker should be lockable, sturdy and waterproof.

Merit badges offered at the jamboree (4-29-10)

Plan ahead and decide what you want to get before you go. We encourage all scouts to earn at least one merit badge while at the jamboree. The classes will be taught by some of the most prominent men and women in their field. For instance, Space exploration might be taught by an astronaut.
Once you know what you want to take, review the requirements and get as much of the paper work done in advance as you can so that you can actually complete your requirements at the jamboree and get the official stamp on your merit badge card. Be sure to bring your blue cards signed by your home troop scoutmasters.

Greetings families of Jamtroop 1907 !!!

This is the final bulletin going out to you prior to the Shakedown campout.  We look forward to seeing you arrive out at Belk Scout Camp by 1 PM this Friday.  I have attached the jamboree personal gear packing list for your reference in case you need another copy.

Participants should bring all gear that they will be bringing out to the jamboree.  The purpose of the shakedown is to test out your gear and make sure you will be prepared for the real thing!  Now read the bulletin please!  Highlights below:

A few Shakedown reminders for everyone

- Bring your swim suit !!! and a towel.  Swim checks are held on Saturday.
- It will be hot.  Be sure to bring a water bottle.  This includes visitors.
- No food will be provided for visitors, just the participants.  Please plan accordingly.
- There will be much to do on Friday, please do not wear your class 'A' to start, but bring it for later events.
-  All scouts and leaders must bring a personal first aid kit, which is the same kit they will be carrying on their person throughout the duration of the jamboree.  This is a jamboree requirement.
- Remember to bring your plaque to the shakedown.  We will be collecting them at that time.

Patrol items

- Patrol leaders, check your patrols for first aid kits and report back to SPL.
- Patrol flags.  Be sure to bring your materials for creating your flag.  You will get the 'empty' canvas flag and a pole from the quartermaster.  Everything else you must provide.
- Be prepared to fill out and follow a duty roster, turn in to SPL at PLC meeting.
- Patrols be ready with a competition event to run sometime during the shakedown.
- Remember that inspections for propane gas leaks will take place before every meal to be cooked during the shakedown and jamboree.  Tip- once your stove is in it's resting place, do not move it or you will have to have your gass connections retested before you can light your stove.

We will be departing for the jamboree at the following location:

Additional instructions for departure

Wear your class 'A' uniform, but have your class 'C' shirt on underneath, as we will be stowing our class 'A' shirts into our backpacks once we have boarded the bus. We will put them back on in the morning, looking and smelling fresh for our entrance to the 2010 National Boy Scout Jamboree - 100 years of scouting celebration !!!
You may carry onto the bus a day pack, containing any medicines that you will need for camp, and any valuables that you are bringing. I encourage you to keep all valuables at home, and only bring the essential items such as your picture identification, your disposable camera(s), your smart card or bracelet (or wallet - we discourage bringing cash!), a water bottle, your personal first aid kit and some light snacks to get you through to lunch time on Monday. Everything else should be packed onto the trucks in your foot locker on July 17th. If you need to carry on a couple of other items please keep it light and easy for security to examine upon entrance to the jamboree.
For only a few exceptions we are allowing some scouts to carry on an additional duffle bag to be stowed under the bus. If you feel you need an additional duffle bag, please contact us in advance with your request. Scouts returning from Camp Grimes on July 17th may fit this category, but please remember to keep it light. You still should arrange to have the bulk of your gear packed onto the truck on July 17th. This will maximize our efficiency in getting through the check-in process at the jamboree. All scouts and families who adhere to these guidelines will receive video footage, via email after the jamboree, of Mr. Paul Cochran doing a belly-flop off the high dive into the lake at the jamboree.
We will be eating breakfast at a Denny's en route to the jamboree. Your meal has already been ordered and paid for. We are all getting the grand slam breakfast and you will not even be going into the restaurant.
On the lighter side of things: It has been rumored that Mr. Cochran will be bringing along his razor for crew cuts. Parents desiring to sign their sons up shearing may do so at this time. ;) This would definitely make an impression on the 1st day of school.

Troop Meeting this Sunday and Calvary Church @ 3 PM

Please bring your decorated plaques so we can see how they are coming along

Trailor loading concerns.

Some of you may be coming back from Camp Grimes on that Saturday.  We are doing our best to make the loading time manageable.  However, please work with your local troops in coordinating a possible early Saturday departure to get your son's gear over to Belk camp on time.  We do not yet have the exact loading time.

Visitors at the shakedown campout.

If you wish to visit your sons during the shakedown campout you will have an opportunity between 2-5 PM on Saturday.  Please keep your visits short as there is much to do, so 30 minutes or less please.  You will be able see the campsites as they will be setup at the jamboree, and also be able to see the scouts in action.

Please follow the rules for visiting as outlined below:
1.  Wear closed footwear only at Belk Scout Camp in order to comply with BSA policy - no sandals, Crocs or Birkenstocks, please.

2.  A visit should not extend beyond 30 minutes as your Scout and his troop will be very busy.

3.  Your Scout will be dismissed sometime on Sunday afternoon once the Shakedown is finished so please do not expect for him to depart with you after your visit is over.

4.  Food will not be provided for any visitors so, if you need a snack, please be sure to bring your own.

5.  Potable water is available via the spigots at Belk Scout Camp so please bring your own water bottle.  We will not have the ability to provide any water containers for visitors.

Jamboree Notes:

All scouts are required to have State-Issued photo ID (School ID is acceptable).

Very Important!

Scouts and leaders it is necessary that your registration will the BSA is current.  Don't forget that it must be renewed every year.  You should have received a membership card from your local troop confirming that you are registered for 2010.  Please get your cards as a confirmation that you are registered.  If you have any doubts whatsoever, please contact the council office for that information.
