Parents, your best options for kids to bring money to the jamboree is as follows: 1. A Debit card w/PIN# 2. A Jamboree Smart Bracelet 3. A Jamboree Smart Card 4. Cash - not recommended Scoutmasters will NOT be managing funds for scouts while at the jamboree. Please prepare your scouts with a suitable option that will work for you. FYI- options 2,3 and 4 are all about the same if they get lost, meaning as good as cash, so scouts do not lose your money! Plan on an average of $10 expenses per person per day. This is not a rule, just an average guideline.Picture ID required at the Jamboree (4-29-10) Picture ID required while at camp! Shakedown assistance is full / visitors information
For any who have planned on helping out at the shakedown but have not yet been contacted, we have been told that the crews are all in place, so thank you for volunteering, we will contact you if a slot opens up. We encourage all parents and families to attend the Friday evening campfire program put on by your sons. The start time is 9PM. Please bring your own water and refreshments. No food will be served to guests throughout the shakedown weekend. We simply do not have the resources, so if you come to visit, please bring your own food and drink.
Merit badges offered at the jamboree (4-29-10)
Plan ahead and decide what you want to get before you go. We encourage all scouts to earn at least one merit badge while at the jamboree. The classes will be taught by some of the most prominent men and women in their field. For instance, Space exploration might be taught by an astronaut. Once you know what you want to take, review the requirements and get as much of the paper work done in advance as you can so that you can actually complete your requirements at the jamboree and get the official stamp on your merit badge card. Be sure to bring your blue cards signed by your home troop scoutmasters. Plaque decorations (4-28-10)
Each Scout received a plaque to decorate which will be hung on the gateway. Parents, I fear that the boys may need some motivation in tapping into their creative side of their brains. This plaque is intended to be an individual reflection of the scout. Let them share with all the other thousands of scouts at the jamboree who they are. Let me encourage you work with your sons so that they represent themselves well. Think of it as a warm up for a resume (in manner of speaking).
Here are my thoughts on what they could add: Lame – Just the scout’s name written or etched with a wood burner tool & the edge has been sanded. Fair – Scout’s name, home troop number, name of school and hobbies Good – Scout’s name, home troop, school, hobbies, a picture of the scout and/or his family Excellent – Good (see above), plus add some type of trinkets and decorations that give the plaque character and further tells the story of just who he is.
3D objects should not protrude more than a few inches at most, and cannot have sharp edges that might poke or cut someone passing by. Please keep the design tasteful or we may ask t have it redone. Remember to weatherproof the plaque, and design it to withstand heavy winds.
